Brief History of The Sultan.
General Haji Sir Hassan al-Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah GCB GCMG (born 15 July 1946) is the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the 29th Sultan of Brunei and the first Prime Minister of Brunei Darussalam. He is the eldest son of Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei, and Pengiran Anak Damit.
He was born on 15 July 1946 in Brunei Town (now called Bandar Seri Bagawan). He became crown prince in 1961 and Sultan on 5 October 1967, after his father abdicated voluntarily. His coronation was held on 1 August 1968. Like his father, he has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, of which Brunei was a protectorate until 1984.
The Sultan received high school education in Malaysia's premier school Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur, where he joined the Cadet Corps (band). After receiving a private education in Brunei, the Sultan attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in October 1967 but returned home to be the Crown Prince few months before graduation.
Under Brunei's 1959 constitution, the Sultan is the head of state with full executive authority, including emergency powers since 1962. On 9 March 2006, the Sultan was reported to have changed Brunei's constitution to make himself infallible under Bruneian law. Bolkiah is also the Prime Minister as well as holding the portfolios of Minister of Defence and Finance.
As Minister of Defence he is also the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; an Honorary General in the British and Indonesian armed forces and an Honorary Admiral of the Fleet in the British Navy. He appointed himself as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Royal Brunei Police Force.
He addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Brunei Darussalam's admission to the United Nations in September, 1984. In 1991, he introduced a conservative ideology to Brunei called Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) (or Malay Islamic Monarchy), which presents the monarchy as the defender of the faith. He has recently favoured Brunei government democratisation and declared himself Prime Minister and President. In 2004, the Legislative Council, which had been dissolved since 1962, was reopened.

Where do you keep 7000 of the world’s rarest cars? Well, he doesn’t have a 7000 door garage, instead he stores most of them in five ultra-secret aircraft hangars,where specialist teams from the various manufacturers maintain it.
What exactly is hiding behind the garage-doors in the Sultan’s palace, nobody knows for sure. According to the Daily Mirror, as of June 30th 2010, the wealthy sultan is a proud owner of 604 Rolls Royces, 574 Mercedes-Benzes, 452 Ferraris, 382 Bentleys, 209 BMWs, 179 Jaguars, 134 Koenigseggs, 21 Lamborghinis, 11 Aston Martins, and 1 SSC, among others. To put this whole thing into perspective, 10 of those 11 Aston Martins are the super-rare One-77. In case the obvious isn’t obvious enough, there were only 77 of those supercars made.
As the ruler of the oil rich sultanate of Brunei on the island of Borneo, the Sultan of Brunei is considered to be the richest monarch in the world. Hence, the Sultan spared no expense to buy and outfit a private jet for himself and his entourage. In fact, his majesty paid at least $100 million through Lufthansa to purchase a Boeing 747-430 and then he spent another $120 million to outfit the aircraft with an interior that befits a Sultan – including washbasins made out of solid gold and Lalique crystal.
It should be noted though that the Sultan also has a whole collection of wide body jets at his disposal, including two Airbus A340s and a 767, but the Boeing 747-430 is his largest aircraft. Given that Brunei is awash in oil, we suspect that the Sultan is not too worried about fuel efficiency or the cost of operating such a fleet!Boing Boing’s Mark Frauenfelder describes it as “the set from the original Star Trek as re-imagined by an H.R. Prince Jefri Bolkiah, full name His Royal Highness Pengiran Digadong Sahibul Mal Pengiran Muda Jefri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien (born 1 January 1954) is a member of the Brunei Royal Family. His elder brother is current Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah.
Prince Jefri was the finance minister of his oil-rich country from 1986 to 1998. He also served as chairman of the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) which invests much of the country's wealth and was responsible for overseas investments. In the wake of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, the sultan had external accountants audit the books of BIA, resulting in charges by the Brunei government that Prince Jefri had embezzled $14.8 billion. He denies the charges but in 2000 agreed to turn over his personal holdings to the government, in return for avoiding criminal prosecution and being allowed to keep a personal residence in Brunei. After numerous legal disputes and appeals, in 2007 Britain's Privy Council ruled that this agreement is enforceable. His various legal issues with the Bruneian state have become the most expensive legal case in British legal history. Prince Jefri is known for his extravagant lifestyle. His personal holdings included a huge art collection, the British jeweler Asprey, The New York Palace Hotel, Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles andPlaza Athénée in Paris. On February 23rd, Celine performs in a private concert for His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji HASSANAL Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan of Brunei, one of the richest person in the world. Every year, for the national holiday, the Sultan invites an international star for a "private" party, where the most famous people from Brunei are invited. A few years ago, the Sultan invited Michael Jackson, and paid him US$10M for a single concert. We don't know how much Celine received, but I would guess around US$10M
