MICHAEL JACKSON LAST WORDS UNDER DRUG INFLUENCE

"We have to be phenomenal. When people live this show, When people live my show, i want them to say, 'I have never seen nothing like this in my life. Go.  Go. I have never seen nothing like this . Go. It is amazing . He's the greatest entertainer in the world. i m taking that money, a million children, children's hospital. The biggest  in the world. Michael Jackson children's Hospital" WORDS OF MICHAEL JACKSON UNDER INFLUENCE  OF DRUG

After nearly six weeks of testimony and 10 hours of deliberation, the jury in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray has reached a verdict: Guilty. With that judgment, the 12 jurors unanimously agreed that Murray was solely responsible for causing Jackson's death by administering a deadly dose of the powerful sedative Propofol to the King of Pop. Jackson, who complained of insomnia in his final months, used the sedative as a sleeping agent, even though Propofol is only meant for surgical operations.
Jackson's parents Joe and Katherine and many of Michael's siblings (but not his three children) were on hand to observe the verdict. "I'm shaking uncontrollably," La Toya Jackson tweeted on her way to the Los Angeles courthouse. "Michael's spirit will be with us in the court room and he will make sure the right verdict is made." When the guilty verdict was read, a brief gasp of approval could be heard in the courtroom, but the court quickly regained order. Outside, hundreds of Jackson fans celebrated the guilty verdict.

After the verdict, having been found guilty of a felony, Murray's bail was denied and the doctor was remanded into custody until his sentencing. Then, the moment Jackson fans had been waiting for: Dr. Murray in handcuffs, being led out of the courtroom. Judge Michael Pastor will next decide Murray's fate on Tuesday, November 29th: The doctor faces a sentence of probation, a revoked medical license, and potentially four years in prison.
Anyone who watched the trial on a daily basis knew that a guilty verdict was essentially a foregone conclusion. The prosecution called witness after witness that painted a damning case against the doctor: Jackson bodyguards testified about how Murray acted improperly when trying to resuscitate the singer, how the doc failed to call paramedics in a timely matter, and Murray attempted to hide medical evidence in the hours after Jackson's death.
Paramedics corroborated much of that testimony, and the Los Angeles coroner and medical expertswho specialized in sedatives also told the court that an overdose of Propofol was what caused Jackson to suffer cardiac arrest. Three of Murray's girlfriends said on the stand that the doctor had called them the night Jackson died, which suggested that he wasn't paying attention to his world famous patient. Even Murray's own interview with police investigators helped cement the case against him.
Murray's defense, meanwhile, responded with a strategy that suggested a suicidal Jacksonadministered the fatal dose of Propofol to himself, even though there was no evidence of Jackson's fingerprints on the sedative's vials. They also tried to imply evidence tampering and that other doctors were to blame for Jackson's drug addiction. In a Hail Mary move, the defense called some of the patients who loved and respected Murray to the stand in an attempt to humanize him to the jury, but by that point the burden of guilt had already weighed heavily against the defense. Murray had an opportunity to call himself as a defense witness and explain what happened the night of June 25, 2009, but he declined.
Finally, over two years after the death of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop's family and fans finally have some closure. "Justice. Justice was served. It wasn't enough time though. Michael was with us," Jermaine Jackson told HLN as he exited the courthouse. "I'm just happy it's over with. Nothing will bring [Michael] back, but I'm happy [Murray] was found guilty," sister Rebbie told reporters. La Toya added, "Thank you America, thank all the fans, thank the prosecuting team, everyone was great. Michael was in that courtroom, that's why victory was served."

One-month old baby received a salary in Nigeria

A one-month old baby, said to hold a diploma, was on the Nigerian government payroll, officials have discovered, exposing the levels to which corruption runs in Africa's most populous country.
The name of the infant was recently found on the payment voucher of a local government council in northern Nigeria during an exercise to fish out ghost employees from a bloated workforce,Garba Gajam, justice commissioner for Zamfara State told AFP late Wednesday.
"In the on-going verification exercise of the payrolls ... in the state we discovered that a month-old baby was among the employees of one local government who is paid a salary," Gajam said.
"What is even more astonishing is that it was indicated in the payroll that the infant holds an ordinary national diploma," saidGajam, revealing that the discovery is a "widespread trend in the local government service where senior officials stuff payrolls with the names of their wives and children".
In August the name of a five-month-old baby was found on the payroll of another local municipality, prompting an investigation.
"And we have been receiving amazing revelations which point to the rot and abysmal level of corruption at the local government level," Gajam said.
Perpetrators will be have to refund the siphoned funds and face prosecution for misappropriating public funds.
Zamfara is one of the 12 predominantly Muslim states in northern Nigeria that adopted the sharia law which imposes amputation of a wrist for theft.
So far no-one has been tried for corruption in a sharia court in the state since the re-introduction of the penal code in 1999.
In 2001, two cattle rustlers had their right wrists amputated in separate sentences, drawing local and international outrage.

How does corn get through the stomach?

An xray of a man swallowed cocaine capsules
How does the corn get through?

-- Stew Brown
Most of us have probably realized that after eating corn, it shows up in our stool. The corn in our stool can appear only hours after we eat it. Rest assured, corn in thestool is normal, and the reason we see the corn relates largely to our digestive tract, and also to evolution.
Millions of years ago, our digestive systems were different. Primitive man was not a big meat eater. Primitive man had a digestive system with a longer digestive tract that was far better equipped to digest plant and vegetable matter. Back then, the appendix likely played a role in digestion -- a role it does not play today.
Our teeth were different then, too. We had larger molars and smaller incisors. Larger molars meant that the difficult-to-digest plant material could be well chewed and mashed. Today, our teeth are smaller and many of us even have problems with our wisdom teeth (our largest molars), which are being phased out by evolution because our diets today really do not require them. (Our jaws are becoming smaller, and as a result the wisdom teeth have less room to grow in.)
So how does this all relate to corn, and why it is seen in the stool? Since we have smaller teeth, we chew our food less effectively, and more of what we eat is swallowed only partially chewed, or not chewed at all. With corn, some of the kernels will be chewed fully, some partially, and the others will be unchewed and swallowed whole. Our digestive system today is not that good at digesting plant material anymore, much less whole kernels. They pass through our stomach and intestines, and appear in our stool to confound and entertain us.

A prisoner swallowed cell Phone
If you would rather not see any corn in your stool, I recommend that you just chew each mouthful into a mushy mixture free of any whole kernels.
One last point I want to make is that it is not difficult for our digestive systems to pass corn kernels. It is really amazing what the digestive system can tolerate and pass. Drugs are frequently smuggled into the country by individuals who swallow balloons or condoms filled with the drugs. (These people are called "body packers.") In addition, I have read on several occasions about people who unintentionally swallowed their dentures, only to pass the dentures in their stool a few days later. I have also read of children swallowing thermometers passing them just the same.
The human digestive system really is fascinating. But remember that we are slowly evolving over time -- our digestive systems are constantly adapting to our diets and our environments. Our digestive systems of today will not be the same as thedigestive systems of humans thousands of years from now. Remember this the next time you enjoy your corn, or broccoli, or any other difficult-to-digest food product -- what kind of food might future generations be spotting in their poop?
Best wishes,

JOB SEEKER BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU POST ON YOUR SNW

The experts have sounded warning to young men and women across the globe. Many Job social media have used social network to measure the intellectualism of jobs seekers. Most People Just submit application thinking all is well. They eventually dazed when they failed to receive any interview call up after several application have been submitted. Yes, many have long learnt the trick that a good CV will do the job and some even went to learn how to write a captivating Resume.
It has now been confirmed that what you post on your social network could probably have been the sole reason why you have not successful got  a single job after school.
An article published on the blog Mashable made it well know  that Social media monitoring service recently surveyed more than 300 hiring professionals to determine when and how job recruiters are screening job candidates on different social networks.
The study found that more than 90% of recruiters and hiring managers have visited a potential candidate’s profile on a social network as part of the screening process. And a whopping 69% of recruiters have rejected a candidate based on content found on his or her social networking profiles — an almost equal proportion of recruiters (68%), though, have hired a candidate based on his or her presence on those networks.
So you need to be careful on what you post on your wall or what comment you make. Your information on those network profile could also be to your advantage or to your disadvantage.
A word is enough for the wise.

IS NIGERIA A DEMOCRATIC STATE OR DEMOMADNESS?

Alhaji King Babatunde Ayinla Nurudeen Olasunkanmi Omidina, aka Baba Suwe is a well known man in the Nigerian movie industry called Nollywood. He was alleged to have have been found with drug on his way to France where he was bid to act as master of ceremony for the naming ceremony of a new born Babe in France.
He was arrested and detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at their office in Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos State. The NDLEA claimed the scan machine at the airport had discovered some particles lodged in his stomach during their check up. However, several news has been aired in relation to the Baba Suwe case. In fact, Thisday Live reported that The Head of Public Affairs, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju,  debunked rumours that Alhaji Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, had been released from detention.
He said Baba Suwe was still in the agency’s custody, adding that prior to the arrest, the comedian did not have any drug-related records with the agency. He also refuted claims that the suspect had relieved himself for the third time, stating that neither had any hard drugs been discovered on him
Since his arrest on Thursday Last week, NDLEA could not consider it necessary to  involve better means to extra the drug from his stomach if truly drug was still lodged in his stomach after excreting over three times already.
In a matter of fact, i am not saying NDLEA should not do their job but please if Nigeria is truly a democratic state, Then what is the meaning and where is this picture of Baba Suwe emanating from.
who were the officers that were with him when he was excreting? Both the NDLEA Chief and his subordinates should be made  scape goats for other institution to learn from

Please Nigeria human right who were staking their lives during the Military era should thing the fight is over. in fact the fight just began. The Picture of baba Suwe be circulated on facebook will and all other network will give you the insight of the level of Nigeria democracy. It is actually a demomadness.

Gaddafi Beautiful Guard> where could she be now...please don't kill her for me..

Where will this beautiful girl be now. this sweet Muhammed Gaddafi body guard. i would her to come stay with me for just few days till the time the war will be over...

(See Gaddafi's Golden Gun ) Autocratic Gaddafi caught in sewage pipe with golden gun

SIRTE, (AFP) – Muammer Gaddafi, the “king of kings of Africa” who for eight months refused to surrender, was captured Thursday in a sewage pipe waving a golden gun near his hometown Sirte, Libyan fighters said.
“Kadhafi was in a jeep when rebels opened fire on it. He got out and tried to flee, taking shelter in a sewage pipe,” National Transitional Council (NTC) field commander Mohammed Leith told AFP.
NTC fighters “opened fire again and he came out carrying a Kalashnikov (assault rifle) in one hand and a pistol in the other,” he said.
Kadhafi “looked left and right and asked what was happening. Rebels opened fire again, wounding his leg and shoulder. He died after that,” according to Leith.
Outside the hospital in Sirte, the Mediterranean city where Gaddafi, diehards for weeks put up a last stand against a revolt which broke out in mid-February, a young fighter proudly brandished what he said was the strongman’s golden gun.
Mohammed Shaban, who said he took part in Gaddafi’s capture, said the 69-year-old who ruled Libya for four decades had been cornered in the sewage pipe. “His blood is on my shirt. I’ll never wash it,” he said.
A fugitive since the NTC forces with NATO air support swept into Tripoli at the end of August, Kadhafi’s whereabouts had remained a mystery.
A wounded Kadhafi was seen alive and standing as he was being manhandled by Libya’s new regime fighters before the announcement of his death, in a videotape aired on Arab satellite channels.
Bloodied in the head, face and shoulders, NTC fighters circled Gaddafi,, who was hailed as the country’s “king of kings” by African tribal chiefs in 2009, as he apparently tried to cry out.
One fighter appeared to hold a gun to his head but it was unclear if he fired before Gaddafi, was hauled onto the front of a vehicle, amid chaotic scenes in the video broadcast on Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera television channels.
“We announce to the world that Gaddafi, has died in the custody of the revolution,” NTC spokesman Abdel Hafez Ghoga announced earlier.
In France, Defence Minister Gerard Longuet said French warplanes fired a warning shot to stop a convoy of up to 80 vehicles carrying Gaddafi, before he was captured.
The convoy of several dozen vehicles “was stopped from progressing as it sought to flee Sirte but was not destroyed by the French intervention,” Longuet told journalists.
Libyan fighters then intervened, destroying the vehicles, from which “they took out Colonel Kadhafi,” he added.
The minister said a French Mirage-2000 was “informed by the integrated general staff (of NATO) of the need for an intervention to prevent this column from advancing.”
“A French warning shot was fired to prevent the column from proceeding and it divided,” he said, after which some of the vehicles were confronted by the NTC fighters.
“In these clashes, vehicles were destroyed, people were wounded and killed and it was among them that… Gaddafi, was a part,” he said.

Death toll from German music festival rises to 19

DUISBURG, Germany – The death toll rose to 19 on Sunday and police said that 342 had been injured in a panicked crush of partygoers in an overcrowded tunnel that served as the sole entrance to a German festival billed as the world's largest techno music party.
The founder of the Love Parade said it would never be held again.
"The Love Parade was always a peaceful event and a happy party" but would forever be overshadowed by the tragedy, Rainer Schaller said.
"It's over for the Love Parade," he said.
He spoke at a press conference where authorities faced tough questions, but provided few details, about why hundreds of thousands of people were funneled through a single highway underpass into the former freight railway station used to host the party.
German media reported that there were at least 1.4 million people but police did not confirm that estimate.
Detlef von Schmeling, the police chief in Duisburg, said that 16 of the 19 people killed have been identified so far. He said they include an Australian, an Italian, a Chinese citizen and a person from Holland.
Von Schmeling said their ages ranged from just over 20 to 40.
Witnesses said officers in Duisburg, a city near Duesseldorf in western Germany, closed the end of the tunnel emptying onto the festival grounds after they become overcrowded around 5 p.m. They told revelers over loudspeakers to turn around and walk back in the other direction. But the entrance to the tunnel did not appear to have been closed and people continued piling in, sparking a panic and then a deadly crush.
Witnesses described a desperate scene, as people piled up on each other or scrambled over others who had fallen.
Partygoer Udo Sandhoefer told n-tv television that even though no one else was being let in, people still streamed into the tunnel, causing "a real mass panic."
"At some point the column (of people) got stuck, probably because everything was closed up front, and we saw that the first people were already lying on the ground," he said.
City officials chose not to evacuate the site, fearing it might spark more panic, and many people continued partying, unaware of the deaths.Rescue workers carried away the injured as techno music thundered in the background.
Other workers had trouble getting to the victims, hampered by the huge crowds. Local media reported that the cell phone system in Duisburg broke down temporarily and frantic parents trying to reach their children instead drove to the scene to look for them.
However, most streets downtown were blocked by police and the highways leading to the city were jammed. Several media outlets also reported that rescue helicopters had problems taking away the heavily injured because there was not enough space for them to land.
The founder of the Love Parade, Matthias Roeingh, known by the name Dr. Motte, blasted the planning for the event, saying "one single entrance through a tunnel lends itself to disaster. I am very sad."
German authorities also have not identified the victims yet, but the Dutch Foreign Ministry said that a 22-year-old Dutch man was among then.
German leaders, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, voiced shock that an event meant to celebrate youth, peace and love could turn so deadly.
"The young people came to celebrate and instead there are dead and injured," Merkel said Saturday. "I am horrified by the suffering and the pain."
It was the worst accident of its kind since nine people were crushed to death and 43 more were injured at a rock festival in Roskilde, Denmark, in 2000. That fatal accident occurred when a huge crowd pushed forward during a Pearl Jam gig.
The Love Parade, where people from across Europe gather to dance, watch floats and listen to DJs spin, was once an institution in Berlin, but has been held in the industrial Ruhr region of western Germany since 2007.
The original Berlin Love Parade grew from a 1989 peace demonstration into a huge outdoor celebration of club culture that drew about 1.5 million people at its peak in 1999. But it suffered from financial problems and tensions with city officials in later years, and eventually moved.
The website of the Love Parade — whose motto this year was "The Art of Love — went black on Saturday night, with words in white saying:
"Our wish to arrange a happy togetherness was overshadowed by the tragic accidents today. ... Our sincere condolences to all the relatives and our thoughts are with all of those who are currently being taken care of."

Almost invisible mirrored tree house built in Sweden

They said it couldn't be done. When we first wrote about the almost invisible tree house to be built in Sweden by Tham & Videgard, 899 commenters thought it was computer-generated eye candy, impossible to build, and death for birds.
But the architects built it, one of six units in a "Treehotel," which recently opened 40 miles south of the Arctic Circle in Sweden.

The four-meter glass cube looks as spectacular in reality as it did in the rendering. Kent Lindvall, co-owner of the TreeHotel, has been quoted as saying:
Everything will reflect in this -- the trees, the birds, the clouds, the sun, everything. So it should be invisible nearly in the forest.

And what about the birds? According to Designboom, Lindvall says that a special film that is visible to birds will be applied to the glass.

The units are constructed from sustainably harvested wood and have electric radiant floor heating and "a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly, incineration toilet"
(Although I've owned an incinerating toilet, and it wasn't that eco-friendly. It used a lot of electricity and created noise and some smells. But perhaps they've improved.)
But other than that minor quibble, this appears to be a truly "eco" resort. The owners say in Designboom:
"This is untouched forest, and we want to maintain it the same way. We decided, for example, to not offer snowmobile safari which is very common up here," says Selberg. Instead, wilderness walks will be offered.

France coach Blanc drops all 23 World Cup players

—France coach Laurent Blanc will drop all 23 World Cup players for his first match next month as collective punishment for the team’s embarrassing fiasco in South Africa.

The French federation said Friday in a statement it had granted Blanc permission to suspend the players at the coach’s request.
France was eliminated in the group stage at the World Cup, failing to win a game. The players also refused to train as a protest after Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home following an expletive-laced tirade at then-coach Raymond Domenech.

Other popular stories on Yahoo!:ESPN rips itself for LeBron James coverage MLB fan runs onto field as security shrugs European power interested in U.S. soccer star ADVERTISEMENT

Blanc refused to speak to reporters when he left the federation’s headquarters Friday.
France plays a friendly against Norway on Aug. 11 in Oslo, and Blanc is set to announce his squad Aug. 5.
France’s disappointing performance in South Africa came after the team failed to win a game at the 2008 European Championship, also under Domenech.

The French team endured days of chaos at the World Cup after L’Equipe newspaper published a rant by Anelka aimed toward Domenech at halftime of a 2-0 loss against Mexico, prompting the French federation to send him home.

The next day, the entire squad refused to train in protest and captain Patrice Evra had a lively altercation with the team’s fitness coach that was captured on TV.

The events caused an outcry in France, with politicians harshly criticizing the players’ attitude, legislators in parliament questioning the coach and even President Nicolas Sarkozy weighing in on the mess.

Earlier Friday, France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris criticized the squad for being “totally stupid” for going on strike and said he is desperate to “restore the image” that was so badly damaged in South Africa.
“Going on strike was the decision of a group that felt isolated, that felt no one had protected it, and that wanted to get a message across,” Lloris said in an interview with L’Equipe. “We went way too far. It was a clumsy decision, a big mistake. It was totally stupid.”
Lloris, who has 14 international appearances and is expected to stay the No. 1 goalkeeper, accepts the players have an obligation “to make sure what happened in South Africa never happens again, that we don’t self-destruct in that way ever again.”

“We acted more like a team in the bus than on the pitch,” the 23-year-old Lloris said.
“We all want to restore the image of Les Bleus. I’m not asking for us to win everything, just that we all make an effort, that we give everything,” he added. “We need to get back to basics, respect for the jersey, for ourselves, our teammates and the institution that is the France team.”

Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes handed in his resignation earlier this month and the federal council unanimously appointed Fernand Duchaussoy as caretaker president Friday.

Duchaussoy said earlier this week it would be difficult for Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema to play for France after both players were issued the preliminary charges for their alleged involvement in a sex scandal with an underage prostitute.
Duchaussoy moderated his position Friday, saying any decision would have to be made in accordance with Blanc’s views on the matter, and that sometimes decisions must be made that go “against one’s personal convictions.”

Ghana team to be honored by government

ACCRA, Ghana (AP)—Ghana’s World Cup players will be given national honors and $20,000 each after reaching the quarterfinals in South Africa.
“You deserved to be honored because you have made Ghana and indeed Africa proud by your performance,” Mills said Tuesday in announcing the accolades at a lunch for the team. The Black Stars were greeted by cheering fans when they returned to Accra on Monday night.
Ghana was adopted as Africa’s team during its run to the final eight of the tournament. The squad came close to being the first team from the continent to make the semifinals; they were knocked out in a penalty shootout by Uruguay in the quarters. The other five African teams all failed to qualify for the second round.
“You did not win the World Cup but, through your performance, you carried high the flags of not only Ghana but Africa,” Mills said.
As well as the cash bonus for the players, a government official said members of the coaching team would receive a reward of $10,000 each.
Former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, who is from Ghana, wrote in a letter to the team that he was one of millions left “heartbroken” after the Uruguay loss.
Ghana was denied victory when a blatant hand ball prevented a goal in the final seconds of extra time. Asamoah Gyan missed the resulting penalty kick, forcing the shootout.
“You won because you brought us all together,” Annan’s letter said. “The lasting trophy to take away from the tournament is this incredible moment of unity.”

Maradona in post-match altercation with German fans

Bye Maradona

Immediately after Argentina's 4-0 quarterfinal loss to Germany on Saturday, Maradona was understandably upset. And according to Argentina's Diarios y Noticias, he let a group of German fans know it. A translation of their report:

Argentina national team coach Diego Maradona had an altercation with German fans after the end of the match that marked the elimination of said team from the 2010 South Africa World Cup.

Apparently upset over post game celebrations by fans located behind the Argentinean bench, Maradona approached and scolded them, until Dalma, one of his daughters, entered the field and contained him.

It's a shame the man who has entertained us all over the last few weeks with his exuberance and delightful antics had to get involved in something like this. He would go on to say that this loss was "the most disappointing moment in my life" which shows just how devastated he must have been as he walked off the pitch and saw German fans in red and yellow wigs partying like it's Oktoberfest in July right behind him. A sad end for the most interesting man of the tournament. Or anywhere else.

Khloe Kardashian's Extravagant Victory Gift to Lamar Odom

.Khloe and family cheer Lamar at the NBA championship.

Noel Vasquez/Getty images Helping his team win the NBA championship title should be a gift in and of itself for Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom, but his wife must have thought the big win needed more celebration than a ticker tape parade.

E! News reports that Khloe Kardashian, Lamar's wife of nearly nine months, bought him a Rolls-Royce.

The car is said to retail at $443,000, and Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, calling it "fabulous," told E! News a few details about the gift.

"It's a brand-new 2010 Rolls-Royce," Jenner said. "Drop-top coupe, white on white."

Jenner was most likely describing the 2010 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, which Car and Driver magazine calls "pretty much everything you'd expect from a convertible that costs half a million dollars."

The review of the Rolls, written by satirist and pundit, P.J. O'Rourke, also referred to the car as "faster than the stink of how rich you'd have to get to buy one."

Writer P.J. O'Rourke fishes from a Rolls Royce Phantom.

Car and Driver Some of the Phantom's features are classic: a teak wood deck ("the same kind of wood used in a really nice yacht," Car and Driver notes); a Rolls-Royce logo that remains upright on the wheel-heads even when they're in motion. But some are downright futuristic, like doors that close with the push of a button. It even has a mechanism to keep its iconic hood ornament safe: If someone messes with it, it drops into the car, and there's even a button on the dashboard that the owner can push to make the ornament disappear into the hood.

Ibori: FG may sack NPA, NIMASA bosses

There were indications on Monday that the Presidency may be planning to sack the leadership of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and the Nigeria Ports Authority over the escape of a former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, from the country.
One of our correspondents gathered that government’s action was based on reports that Ibori may have evaded arrest by fleeing through the country’s waterways.

Ibori fled the country to Dubai after he was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last month. He was declared wanted after he failed to honour its invitation over allegations that he used shares belonging to Delta State to secure a N44bn loan from a bank.

A competent source in the Federal Ministry of Transport told one of our correspondents in Abuja on Monday that government was unhappy that the officials of both agencies failed to apprehend Ibori. This, the official said, had fuelled the suspicion that some of them may have aided his escape.

Consequently, it was gathered that sweeping changes in the two agencies may be imminent in both agencies. Those likely to be affected are the Director-General of NIMASA, Mr. Temsare Omatseye, and Managing Director of the NPA, Mallam Abdul Salam Muhammed.

The ministry source said, “The DG of NIMASA has already been informed about his disengagement. Unless there is a last-minute change of mind by the President, his disengagement will be announced before the end of this week. Also, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority may likely be affected.”

When contacted on the telephone, the Head, Public Relations, NIMASA, Mrs. Ego Nwokocha, said the agency was not aware of such a plan.

According to her, “I am not aware of any plan by the Federal Government to remove the DG. I think it is a mere speculation. Moreover, he came in not long ago.

“Removing him now will not augur well for the development of the maritime sector. However, I believe that there is nothing like that.”

When one of our correspondents contacted the NPA’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Liya, on the telephone at 5:22 pm, he said, “In fact, right now, I am still in the office. I am not aware of such a development.”

Celebrity sex-tape scandal grips Indonesia

Nazril Irham Ariel, Luna Maya AP – In his July 14, 2009 photo, pop singer Nazril Irham, better known as Ariel, left, and his girlfriend …
  •
  •  By NINIEK KARMINI,
JAKARTA, Indonesia – Indonesians grappled with their first-ever celebrity sex-tape scandal, casting aside social taboos as they swarmed around office computers and mobile phones to watch clips allegedly showing a much-loved pop star with two girlfriends.
The story topped newscasts for a week and dominated chatter on social-networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. But just as controversial was the reaction of officials in the newly democratic nation.
Police initially threatened to charge the "stars" under a strict anti-pornography law.
Several high schools were raided for mobile phones so the offending clips could be removed. And some ministers said the incident pointed, once again, to moral decay and the need for stricter controls of the Internet.
Indonesia, a secular nation with more Muslims than any other in the world, emerged from 32 years of dictatorship in 1998. It won praise for tackling the tough tasks of fighting corruption and terrorism and implementing widely lauded social and economic reforms.
But it still faces challenges on the road to democratization, from the explosion of grass-roots campaigning on the Web to old-style politicians, who speak to small constituencies or narrow-based parties rather than the central government, said sociologist Wimar Witoelar.
For some, the initial instinct still is to clamp down.
When the scandal spurred debate as to whether education about sex — a subject still taboo at home and in the classroom — should be added to the school curriculum, Minister of Education Muhammad Nuh responded with a flat out "no."
"I may be obsolete, but I don't see that sex education in schools is needed," he told reporters. "I believe people will learn about sex naturally."
Instead, he recommended authorities search students' mobile phones for copies of the tapes, the rapid dissemination of which "violates the rules and cultural norms in a religious society."
"Whoever is responsible should be punished," Nuh said.
The first six-minute video clip appears to show pop singer Nazril Irham, better known as Ariel, in bed with his girlfriend Luna Maya, a top model, actress and, up until the scandal, the face of Lux beauty soap.
The two deny it was them, saying the footage has been doctored, but were called in for questioning by police.
Initially officers threatened to charge them under a tough anti-pornography law, even though there was no indication the intimate but explicit sex scenes were ever intended for public viewing.
"If someone is proven to have intentionally distributed the videos, that person will be charged," said Brig. Gen. Zainuri Lubis, spokesman for the national police, adding even those caught downloading clips and copying it for others could face jail time.
Local media said the video started appearing in early June after Ariel's laptop was stolen and many similar tapes, with other celebrities, are still out there.
Then a second eight-minute video emerged, purportedly showing Ariel with a former girlfriend, also a well-liked model and television presenter, further fanning public appetite for more.
As the tapes were downloaded onto Facebook and YouTube (they have since been removed by the sites' administrator) and distributed from mobile phone to mobile phone, the country tottered on the verge of sexual hysteria.
Fifteen-year-old Bintang Irvano, a student at a high school in south Jakarta, huddled around a mobile phone with his two friends to look at the video "for about the fourth time."
He said after teachers started launching daily raids, teens started removing the footage from their phones ahead of class only to later upload it.
"It's easy to get it back again," said Raikhan Daffa, 16. "We just pass it to one another by Bluetooth."
"Hey, it's one way to learn about sex!" he said, laughing.
Work grinded to a halt at some offices last week, as employees discussed the scandal on Facebook or forwarded a steady string of jokes, the punch lines all tied to the scandal.
The country of 240 million has seen an explosion of social networking as more people have access to the Internet, prompting the government earlier this year to propose a bill to regulate content.
Public pressure forced it, eventually, to be shelved.
But, in the wake of the sex-tape saga, Minister of Information and Technology Tifatul Sembiring renewed calls for content control, and teams immediately set out to deploy firewalls for more than 2,000 Internet cafes around the country.
He said it was a "race against time" to protect children from harm.
Others argued while it is important to protect the young, new media has a key role to play in helping democratize the country, and curtailing content does not come without risks.
"The government may have good intentions," said Roy Suryo, an information and technology analyst. "But freedom of information and personal access rights have to be protected as well."
